At Love Dental Studio, Dr. Marla Yee understands that sometimes a tooth can’t be saved. That’s why our compassionate and knowledgeable Washington, DC, general dentist offers vital tooth extraction services to maintain your oral health. Whether you’re dealing with severe decay, advanced gum disease, or trauma, Love Dental Studio uses state-of-the-art techniques to carefully remove teeth with minimal discomfort and stress.
While tooth extractions are not our first choice, they become essential when a tooth is beyond repair or could compromise your overall health. Situations such as tooth decay that has destroyed enough tooth structure to prevent restoration, advanced gum disease compromising the supporting ligaments of the tooth, or an impacted tooth that may cause damage to adjacent teeth or bone structure can necessitate an extraction. Removing such teeth can prevent the spread of infection and pave the way for further restorative treatments, ensuring your mouth’s health and function are maintained.
Your comfort and safety are our top priorities, and we ensure a sterile environment for all procedures. Rest assured, we’re here to provide personalized care and support, addressing your unique needs every step of the way.
Before starting the procedure, we offer minimally invasive sedation dentistry to help relax those who need it. Then, we numb the area with a local anesthetic to ensure that the patient doesn’t feel discomfort. Afterward, Dr. Yee carefully removes the tooth from the socket and closes the wound. She’ll also offer aftercare instructions, which may include medications, temporary dietary changes, and more.
Understanding the difference between simple and surgical extractions is key to preparing for this dental procedure. By addressing your concerns and exploring available options, you can make informed decisions about your oral health and ensure a brighter smile for the future.
Simple Tooth Extractions
A simple extraction involves the removal of a tooth that is visible above the gum line, typically using forceps and a dental elevator; this method is generally quick and straightforward, often requiring just a local anesthetic.
Surgical Tooth Extractions
On the other hand, surgical extractions are necessary for teeth that are not easily accessible or visible in the mouth—this is common for teeth that are broken at the gum line or partially erupted, such as wisdom teeth. Surgical extractions involve a more complex procedure that includes making an incision into the gum to access and remove the tooth, often necessitating both local anesthesia and sedation for patient comfort.
While most individuals may not eagerly anticipate dental extractions, they can prove to be a valuable tool in enhancing oral health and a significant step towards achieving better overall well-being. I saw Dr. Yee as a new patient for a routine dental cleaning. On arrival I was promptly greeted by the front desk staff. I was brought back for treatment quickly. The dental assistant and hygienist were lovely. Dr. Yee talked me through every procedure, and even discussed the x-ray and photo findings with me. Dr. Yee and her staff provided excellent dental care. I will definitely be coming back!
The staff members were incredibly helpful and friendly, making me feel comfortable and at ease throughout my visit. The nurses and dentist demonstrated an impressive level of knowledge, taking the time to explain my dental concerns in a way that was easily understandable…10/10. And thank you Dr. Marla!
